Kuala Lumpur, March 1 – MIC’s Disciplinary Committee has sacked a party member yesterday for saying that party president Datuk Seri G. Palanivel should not be allowed to campaign for the Barisan Nasional (BN) in the Kajang by-election.

The committee’s chairman Tan Sri Dr K.S. Nijhar said former Bukit Gelugor MIC division chief K. Loganathan had been expelled from the party as he failed to provide evidence to support his claims against the party president.

He said Loganathan, who was present at the MIC headquarters yesterday, failed to provide such evidence.

“His explanation was unsatisfactory. Therefore, the committee has decided to expel Loganathan from the party with immediate effect.

“However, Loganathan has 14 days time to appeal to the party Central Working Committee (CWC) on the decision,” he said when contacted Saturday.

On Feb 21, a news portal quoted Loganthan as saying that Palanivel should not be permitted to campaign in the Kajang by-election, scheduled for March 23.

Four days later, the Disciplinary Committee issued a show-cause letter to Loganathan, asking him for an explanation.

Nijhar added that Loganathan was one of 10 leaders which the committee decided to monitor after the committee’s meeting on Feb 17.

He said the disciplinary committee would meet again in about two months’ time to finalise if any disciplinary action should be taken against any of them for acting against the party’s interests.
