Kuala Lumpur, March 15- AirAsia has announced flight cancellations to and from Pekanbaru, Indonesia, for today and tomorrow due to the low visibility caused by the severe haze in the area.
“The presence of thick haze reduces pilot visibility to below 1,000 meters, which is the minimum level of flight visibility required for safe operations,” said the low-cost carrier in a statement.
The cancellation of AirAsia flights from and to Pekanbaru involved:
* Kuala Lumpur to Pekanbaru
* Pekanbaru to Kuala Lumpur
* Pekanbaru to Bandung
* Bandung to Pekanbaru
* Pekanbaru to Medan
* Medan to Pekanbaru
AirAsia also said all affected flights were expected to resume on Sunday, March 16, depending on visibility improvement.
The airline offered two service recovery options for guests affected by the flight cancellations.
Passengers may choose to change flights within seven days of the original departure date without additional charges; or credit shell equivalent to the value of the confirmed booking to be used for payment of any AirAsia flight.
Credit shell is valid for 90 days from the date of issue.
“Each affected guest will be notified, via their registered member email account, as well as, an SMS notification of these flight cancellations.
“AirAsia strongly urges all guests to keep their email addresses and mobile numbers with their country code prefix updated in their AirAsia member profiles to ensure that they can be contacted by the airline,” AirAsia said.
