KUALA LUMPUR, April 28 — A total of 27,000 Indian youths have applied to participate in programmes of the New Affirmative Action Movement Foundation’s (NAAM) which are aimed at empowering their economy through entrepreneurship and in the agriculture and plantation sectors.
Its president and founder Datuk M Saravanan, who is also Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, said the first intake of 5,000 youths will be the pioneer batch.
He was speaking at the opening ceremony of the foundation’s headquarters at Grand Seasons Avenue here today.
Malaysia’s Special Envoy for Infrastructure to India and South Asia, Datuk Seri S. Vellu declared open the foundation’s office.
Also present were Health Minister Datuk Seri S. Subramaniam, who is also Deputy MIC President and Second Deputy Education Minister, P. Kamalanathan.
Saravanan said the foundation will set up nine branches in several states next month for more Indian youth to participate in the programme.
NAAM, launched November last year was aimed at propelling the 100,000 Indian youths across the country in four years (2013-2017)economically through entrepreneurship.
