KUALA TERENGGANU, May 13 — The Terengganu PAS Liaison Committee has convened a special meeting here following the latest political developments in the state.
State PAS commissioner Satiful Bahri Mamat said today that Terengganu PAS had been closely monitoring the developments and “the necessary action is being taken”.
“InsyaAllah (God willing), in the interests of all the people, we will come up with the best solution to the crisis,” he said in a statement.
Satiful Bahri advised all quarters to remain calm and patient.
He said Terengganu PAS would issue statements from time to time through the official media to counter statements outside of those made by the party’s leaders as well as rumours.
Former Terengganu menteri besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Said and two Barisan Nasional (BN) assemblymen from Umno – Ghazali Taib (Ajil) and Roslee Daud (Bukit Besi) – announced early today they had quit the party and become independent representatives.
This reduced the BN representation in the state legislative assembly from 17 to 14. PAS has 14 representatives in the assembly and PKR, one.
After Ahmad’s resignation as the menteri besar yesterday, Seberang Takir assemblyman Datuk Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman was sworn in as the new menteri besar last night.
