New Delhi, May 28 – An Ambassador car from the Indian carmaker Hindustan Motors puts in an appearance in New Delhi, India on 28 May 2014.
Hindustan Motors has stopped production of its iconic Ambassador car, a spokesman for the company said Sunday.
The company had informed the Bombay Stock Exchange 24 May that it had suspended operations at its plant in Uttarpara in West Bengal state as of May 24.
The Ambassador is the first car to be manufactured in India. It is mostly used for taxis or by government departments. It went into production in 1957 and still retains much of its original retro look, though it has failed to keep pace with the changes in the automobile industry in terms of technology.
