Lucknow, June 12 – Another shocker from Akhilesh Yadav’s Uttar Pradesh. A woman was allegedly gangraped by four cops inside a police station in Hamirpur district. The incident took place on Monday when the woman had gone to meet her husband, detained in connection with a case, in Sumerpur police station of the district.
Three other policemen named in the FIR are absconding and a search is on to nab them, officials said. Following a complaint by the woman, an FIR was lodged and the Station House Officer (SHO) was arrested, Hamirpur Superintendent of Police Virendra Shekhar said.
Shekhar assured the woman that no one would be spared if found guilty. In the recent past, the Samajwadi Party state government has come under fire for rising crime against women and lawlessness.
BJP state spokesman Vijay Bahadur Pathak said the incident was another example of lawlessness in Uttar Pradesh. “Women are not safe in their homes, out in the fields and now not even inside police stations,” he said.
