KUALA LUMPUR, June 14 — The Youth and Sports Ministry, through the New Affirmative Action Movement (NAAM), has allocated RM1 million to the newly-launched Malaysian Indian Youth Consultative Council (MIYCC).
Its minister, Khairy Jamaluddin (pic), said the allocation was meant for the implementation of economic and skills development programmes to empower Indian youth.
“I see the MIYCC playing an important role in voicing out the views and opinions of Indian youth to the government,” he told a press conference after the launch of MIYCC here today.
Also present were his deputy eryDatuk M. Saravanan and MIC Youth chief C.Sivaarrajh.
MIYCC was established to empower the Indian community, especially youth, in various fields, including economy, social, education and leadership.
Khairy explained that such a consultative council was vital in enhancing the participation of Indian youth in the country’s national economic transformation process.
“In fact, among the key factors to achieve the status of a high-income nation by 2020 is to have Indian youth with a strong leadership ability,” he added.
