KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 18 – The ban on Australian senator Nick Xenophon from entering Malaysia is the best move to maintain stability and harmony in Malaysia as he is a threat to this. According to the views of local scholars and political analysts, the ban could ensure that Xenophon would not continue to be a thorn in the flesh as he has been a threat to the country, including by being involved in the illegal gathering, Bersih 3.0.
Xenophon(pic) was refused entry upon his arrival at the Low-Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT), Sepang on Saturday under Section 8(3) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 as he has a record of tarnishing Malaysia’a image at the international level. International Movement for a Just World (JUST) president Dr Chandra Muzaffar said Malaysia did not need a bias observer like Xenophon whose aim was to ridicule Malaysia’s general election process.
“Those who really want to ensure a fair and free general election must cooperate with the Election Commission to strengthen the election process through the Parliamentary Select Committee formed,” he said.
Universiti Malaysia Kelantan legal adviser and professor, Datuk A Halim Sidek said barring Xenophon from entering Malaysia did not constitute breach of human rights. He said every country in the world had the right to do the same based on its laws to protect stability and harmony.
Malaysian Youth Council deputy president Muammar Ghadafi Jamal said deporting Xenophon was a brave move to safeguard national security and order in the country.
“The action is nothing extraordinary. Furthermore, he had clearly proven capable of threatening our country’s image and reputation.
“Taking a leaf from a Western nation like the United States, it will also not allow an individual to enter the country if he has a dubious profile,” he said.
