KUANTAN, Feb 19 – The Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry will meet the Department of Islamic Development (Jakim) to discuss the rampant sale of blessed water (air jampi).
Its minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob(Pic) said steps were being taken to control the sale of ‘air jampi’ in the market if there was evidence that such sale involves deception or aimed at confusing the people.
“We will discuss the matter with Jakim so that there will be control over the sale of ‘air jampi’ and ensure that advertisements on the sale of such products will not deceive consumers,” he told reporters after handing out 1Malaysia Book Vouchers (BB1M) to 8, 531 Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) students, here, yesterday.
Ismail Sabri said though there was no restriction on the sale of ‘air jampi’ in the market, guidelines and instructions set for such sale must be adhered by those who sell such products.
“We have issued directives that there should be no advertisement on such products because it can confuse the people, so those who intend to sell such products must follow the guidelines,” he said.
He said severe action can be taken against those who defy the regulations set by the ministry or those who issue testimonies on such products.
