MIC-Logo-300-X-200Kuala Lumpur, June 20 – Speculations are rife within MIC circles that two MIC leaders have received their letters of appointment for their respective Senate positions. They are Pahang MIC State Chairman Dato Gunasegaran and former MIC Youth leader Dato S.A.Vigneswaran.

MIC sources said both are expected to be sworn on Monday 23rd of June.

Earlier reports said that MIC President Dato Seri G.Palanivel has submitted 3 names to the Prime Minister to fill up the 3 Senate positions which had not been filled for the last few months.

There were also speculations that the 3 names submitted to the Prime Minister are that of Dato S.Sothinathan, Dato S.A.Vigneswaran and Dato R.Ganesan from Perak.

However, in a latest turn of events MIC sources indicated today that MIC would be allocated only 2 Senate positions, one to MIC Pahang State Chairman Dato Gunasegaran and the other to Dato S.A.Vigneswaran. Both are said to have received their respective letters of appointment.

What happens to 3rd Senate for MIC?

According MIC sources there are four senate positions for MIC pending appointment by party president Palanivel for many months.

The first senate for MIC was that of former Penang State Chairman Dato Subbiah which became vacant upon his death in April 2012.

The second senate position became vacant when Tapah MIC division Chairman Dato Dr Malasingam completed his term of office last year.

The third senate was the one held by party president Palanivel himself which  he relinquished in May 2013 to contest as a candidate in 13 GE. He contested in Cameron Highlands parliament seat and won.

All these 3 senates have remained vacant since then.

The fourth senate was promised to MIC by the BN leadership, when MIC gave up a State assembly seat in Perak in favour of UMNO in 13GE. However, this promise of Senate is yet to be fulfilled.
