The Seremban Municipal Council (MPS) President Datuk Abd Halim Abd Latif said the Tourism and Culture Ministry had provided the council with the allocation for the orchid park, which was also the first in the state.

The orchid park is developed on a reserve land that has been gazetted for recreational purposes. The development is done in phases at a cost of around RM4 million. There are currently 40 types of orchid at the park, all of them local varieties.

Among the orchids grown at the park are the Tiger Orchid, Bulbophyllum flammuliferum, Trichoglottis cirrhifera, Eria ornata, Coelogyne rochussenii, Eria rulchella, Bulbophyllum odoratum, Rhyncontylis coelistis alba, Bulbophyllum medusae, Thrixspermum centipeda, Gramnatophyllum scriptum, Cymbidium dayanum and a variety of hybrids orchids.

“We are planning on making the ‘black orchids’ as the park’s main attraction. “Our long term plan is to expand our orchid collection, including by adding imported varieties to the orchid collection”, Abdul Halim said to Bernama, recently.

A PRETTY LANDSCAPE

The park was designed with the educational aspect in mind. The species of orchids grown are either the wild or hybrid types. The park included the management building and the exhibition area into its landscape design, creating an orchid park unlike any other.

The park also has WiFi capabilities, a campsite, a playground and is near a hotel. The Seremban Orchid Park has already received many visitors, particularly due to the Visit Malaysia Year 2014 tourism campaign. Those wishing to enjoy the beauty of the orchids at the park can visit it during its opening hours of between 10.00am and 7.00pm daily. Entrance is free.

It is near the hotels the Royale Bintang Seremban and Klana Resort. The Seremban Lake Park is the most popular sports and recreational park in the town and attracts many visitors during weekends and public holidays.

It is one of the oldest natural lake parks in Malaysia. The park was redeveloped in the year 2000 at a cost of RM5 million. It is now in its third and last phase of its development programme, which will cost around RM3 million.
