KUALA LUMPUR, July 19– The B777-200 aircraft bearing registration number 9M-MRD that operated MH17 on 17 July, 2014 had a clean maintenance record, according to Malaysia Airlines (MAS) today.
In a statement here, the national airline said the aircraft’s last maintenance check was last Friday, (July 11, 2014) and the next check was due this August 27. “The maintenance was conducted at MAS’ hangar at KL International Airport (KLIA). The aircraft had a clean bill of health,” it said.
MAS Flight MH17, which was on a scheduled flight from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur on Thursday, went down in eastern Ukraine. It is supposed to land at 6.10am this morning at KLIA.
MAS said the aircraft was manufactured in July 1997, and so was in service for 17 years. “It had recorded 75,322 hours with a total of 11434 cycles. All communication system on the aircraft was functioning normally,” it said.
