SONGKHLA, July 24 – Local businesses in Hat Yai, a business hub in Thailand’s southern Songkhla province are expected to earn at least 50 million baht (US$1.57 million) during the upcoming Hari Raya celebrations.
At least 80 percent of hotel rooms in the city have been booked by tourists from Thailand and neighbouring countries, Thai News Agency (TNA) reported. All accomodation providers are expected to be fully taken up before the Hari Raya holidays which start on July 28.
This year, more security forces including soldiers and defence volunteers will be deployed in business areas and tourist sites in Hat Yai in anticipation of a high number of tourists. Hat Yai has a reputation for being a shopping destination for both Thais and foreigners.
