New Delhi, August 7 – Apple will reportedly announce the next iPhone on September 9. According to Recode, a technology website that has a proven record of accurately predicting Apple’s product launch schedule, the company will hold a media event to launch the next version of iPhone – likely to be called the iPhone 6 – on September 9.
Apple has not yet confirmed the date. This year Apple is likely to launch an iPhone with a bigger screen, possibly with a screen size of 4.7-inch. Though it is not clear if the company will follow the pattern it set last year with the iPhone 5S and the iPhone 5C and launch two version of the device – one cheaper and one flagship.
The iPhone 5C, which uses a plastic body and is relatively cheaper compared to the more premium iPhone 5S, hasn’t done too well in the market. People who wanted to buy an iPhone mostly opted for the iPhone 5S instead of the iPhone 5C. Due to the lower-than-expected sales of the iPhone 5C, Apple may do away with the “C version” of the device this year.
At the same time, there are strong indications that this year Apple will launch two models of iPhone that will have different screen sizes in a bid to compete against the normal-size phones like Nexus 5 as well as phablets that have screen size of 5.5-inch or more.
Phablets have proven popular in developing markets like China and India and with a bigger iPhone, Apple may try to woo consumers who like big screen devices. The new iPhone will likely go on sale a few weeks after the announcement on September 9.
Along with the bigger screen size, the new iPhone is also likely to use a new processor (possibly Apple-designed A8), better rear camera with more mega pixels and more RAM.
