DHAKA, Aug 7 – Death toll from a ferry that capsized in Padma River in Bangladesh’s central Munshiganj district rose to 21 on Thursday after rescuers retrieved 10 more bodies, Xinhua news agency reported.
Lauhajang Police Station officer-in-charge, Tofazzal Hossain said more than 100 people are believed to be still trapped inside the sunken vessel, Xinhua news agency reported.
The ferry carrying some 250 passengers sank in Padma River about some 27 km southeast of capital Dhaka at 11.15 am local time on Monday after getting caught in a storm.
Three days after the incident, rescuers had failed to locate any trace of the vessel.
Divers from fire brigade, Bangladesh Navy and Coast Guard are still struggling to locate the vessel.
Ferry and boat disasters are common in Bangladesh with ferry a major means of transport for many.
