New Delhi, August 12 – The first day of BMW India Bridal Fashion Week 2014 held at DLF Emporio, Vasant Kunj, on Thursday evening was a satisfying presentation of couture with a reassuring and stylish essence.
No over-the-top embroidery or overbearing flamboyant hues; collections by designer Tarun Tahiliani and duo Gauri & Nainika delivered refreshingly straightforward and wearable designs for the bride-to-be.
The opening show by Tahiliani, ‘The Modern Mughals’, comprised ensembles in three overarching shades of gold, red and black. Models strutted down the ramp in carefully crafted lehengas, blouses with mesh detailing, jamawar motif long jackets, graded kalidar kurtas, floral patterned saris and more.
Sheer silks, reshams and tulle fabrics were complimented not only with mukaish dupattas, but ornate brocades and zari work as well. For the men’s range, the classic black combination was given a twist with unconventional shades such as pistachio, deep orange and gold.
The ensembles had a stately feel to them, and included a range of kurtas, jodhpurs, dhotis and the essential sherwani, styled together with lavish drapes and cummerbands.
Meanwhile, Gauri & Nainika showcased a collection for the contemporary bride who’d rather make a statement than follow convention. Keeping it edgy yet classic, the ensembles were minimal in design with sharp cuts and straight lines in black, white and red neoprene, which is a scuba diving fabric.
Replete with sexy thigh-high slits, racer backs, textured skirts and trains, the garments presented the skill of cut and pleating that the duo are popular for. Many members of the fashion fraternity, including Rohit Bal and Suneet Varma, were spotted in the front row to cheer the designers.
The four day event will carry on till Sunday, with Bollywood divas Kangna Ranaut, Nargis Fakhri, Esha Gupta and Shraddha Kapoor expected to walk the ramp in the coming days.
