KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 16 – Malaysia Crime Prevention Foundation (MCPF) welcomes the government’s proposal to implement prudent internet usage teaching programmes starting from the primary school level to help clarify the correct way to use the internet.
Its vice chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye said the programme should be implemented from the school until university level as the majority of current internet users comprised the Y generation who were technology savvy.
“Using the internet prudently and with responsibility especially for the young generation is very important and such efforts need to be conducted systematically to avoid cases of social media abuse in future,” he told Bernama here Saturday.
He was commenting on the recent statement by Communication and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek on the issue.”We have yet to have any teaching on how to use the internet. Many still do not know how to use the internet correctly and hence will misuse it,” said Lam Thye.
