Melbourne CityMELBOURNE, Aug 20  – While Melbourne has retained its status as the world’s most liveable city for a fourth consecutive year, it has added another string to its bow by being named the world most friendliest in a survey undertaken by Conde Nast Traveler magazine.

The Economist Intelligence Unit’s Global Liveability Index found Melbourne to be ahead of 139 other cities, with the city scoring well across a range of criteria, including health care, culture and environment, education and infrastructure. It also scored a perfect 100 points in the sub-category of sport.

Vienna ranked second in the survey, with Adelaide (5th), Sydney (7th) and Perth (9th) also polling well.

The award comes after Melbourne was ranked by Conde Nast Traveller magazine as the world’s friendliest city
Melbourne tied first place for friendliest city with Auckland in the survey, where voters were able to take a number of factors into consideration, not just the demeanour of a city’s people.

Those behind the annual Readers’ Choice Survey said it was “no surprise readers adore Melbourne”, which was commended for being one of the “classiest cities in the world”.

Called “capital of cool” Melbourne was praised for boasting an abundance of amazing nightlife, food and hotels, but was also praised for its parks and “fabulous” public art, and its people’s “wonderful sense of humour”.
