New Delhi, August 21 – Karbonn is number three in the Indian smartphone market, but it is losing the fight to Micromax, which is pulling away, and Lava, which is catching up. On Wednesday, the smartphone maker launched the Titanium S19 in India for Rs 8,999, billing it as a selfie phone, in hope to woo young consumers.
The device has a 5-inch 720P screen. It is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core processor working In tandem with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage. It has a microSD card slot that can be used for up to 32GB cards.
It’s a dual-SIM smartphone, which runs on Android 4.4.2 KitKat, but its main calling card is the camera hardware. On the back, there is a 13-megapixel camera with an f/2.0 aperture.
Karbonn claims the image sensor comes from Sony. On the front, there is a 5-megapixel camera supporting the notion of it being a low-cost selfie phone. It also has a 2,000mAh battery and works with 3G networks in the country.
Commenting at the launch, Shashin Devsare, Executive Director of Karbonn said, “Selfies are increasingly becoming a medium of self expression amongst youth contributing to its phenomenal popularity across social media platforms.
Catering to the consumers’ demand for smartphones equipped with superior camera features, Karbonn has launched a dynamic smartphone device powered with advanced photography features & interactive camera apps for superior picture and video quality.”
Going by the hardware specs of the device, the phone will compete with the likes of the Moto E, Asus ZenFone 4, Micromax Unite 2 and Nokia’s new Lumia 530. The phone hopes to cash in on the selfie phenomena by providing a high resolution front facing camera, something the aforementioned products do not offer.
