SINGAPORE, Aug 23- Singapore’s Changi Airport handled 4.58 million passengers in July, up one percent year-on-year with passengers from China registering on-year increase for the first time this year.
The rise in Chinese passengers is fueled by strong growth in traffic to and from Shanghai, Nanjing, Haikou, Hangzhou and Qingdao, Xinhua news agency
reported the Changi Airport Group as saying Friday.
Traffic to and from Northeast Asia and South Asia, including Hong Kong, India and Vietnam, registered strong double-digit growth. Political instability in Thailand saw traffic between the two countries fall by 12 percent year-on-year in the ninth consecutive month of decline.
The airport handled 31.8 million passengers between January and July, a 1.3-percent increase from the same period a year ago. The number of aircraft landings and take-offs grew by 3.6 percent to 199,900.
