iphone-fastNew Delhi, September 24 – As consumers get their hands on the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus, performance numbers from these two devices have started appearing. As we know both use a dual-core processor running at 1.4GHz. This processor uses Apple’s own ARM-based architecture and is called A8. It is an upgrade of A7, which runs at 1.3Ghz and powers iPhone 5S.

While on paper the two may sound low but just the way A7 was fastest mobile processors in terms of raw speed, the A8 is one of the fastest processors powering a cellphone. Yes, you read. It is faster than most of the existing octa and quad-core processors that power Android phones. But exactly how fast? Here are some numbers.

Results submitted at the Geekbench website shows that in single-core performance, the A8 is the fastest mobile processor. For multi-core processing it is as fast as top-end Qualcomm processor.

According to Geekbench, an app that tests theoretical speed of a phone, the iPhone 6 scores 1627 points in single-core configuration and 2920 in multi-core tests. iPhone 6 Plus scores 1481 and 2662 points.

In comparison top-end Qualcomm Snapdragon processors score somewhere around 1000 points in the single-core benchmark and in around 2900 in the multi-core tests.

In graphics performance too the performance of the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus is very good. In tests performed by Anandtech using 3D Mark and GFXBench show good performance.

iPhone-6-metalIn GFXBench Manhattan, which is very a demanding test, both the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus manage to push around 19 frames per second, which is nearly 50% better than what top end processors powering Android phones can do.

For example, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor in the HTC One (M8) can push out only 12 frames per second in this test. In 3D Mark, the new iPhones get an overall score of around 17,000 points, which is comparatively low.

Though in the graphics portion of this test, these phones are top of the list with around 22,000 points. In benchmarks that mirror real world performance, like Sunspider that tests web browsing speed, according to Anandtech, the new iPhones are best performing mobiles phones.

The only processor from Android world that consistently matches or surpasses the A8 is Nvidia’s Tegra K1. Unfortunately, this processor is not yet widely available in smartphones and tablets.

Though at the same time, we expect the Qualcomm Snapdragon 805, which powers the international version of the Galaxy Note 4, to also match the performance of the A8.
