SINGAPORE, September 24- Singapore’s Ministry of Transport (MOT) says the republic is awaiting confirmation from Malaysia on the location of the Rapid Transit System (RTS) terminus in Johor Baharu to enable the next phase of study on the project to commence.

This was in response to media queries on Malaysian media reports quoting Johor state executive councillor in charge of Public Works and Rural and Regional Development, Datuk Ir. Hasni Mohammad as saying that Singapore was holding back on deciding the alignment options for the RTS link and that the RTS terminal in Johor Baharu would be in Bukit Chagar.

In a statement today, an MOT spokesman said: “Singapore informed Malaysia in June 2011 that the RTS terminus in Singapore would be located at Woodlands North, near Republic Polytechnic.”“Singapore has not received the official confirmation from Malaysia on the location of the RTS terminus in Johor Baharu.

“We look forward to Malaysia’s confirmation when the Malaysia-Singapore Joint Ministerial Committee for Iskandar Malaysia (JMCIM) meets next month, so that the project may proceed on time to the next phase of its study, as previously agreed by both sides.”

The spokesman said confirmation of the location of the Johor Baharu RTS station was required before both sides could finalise the alignment of the crossing between JB and Singapore.
