KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 25 — According to unofficial results, the Barisan Nasional (BN) retained the Pengkalan Kubor state seat with a bigger majority of 2,625 votes in today’s by-election.
Sources said the BN secured 9,960 votes, PAS garnered 7,335 votes and the independent candidate obtained 37 votes.
The by-election was a three-cornered contest among Mat Razi Mat Ail (rpt) Ail of the BN (right), Wan Rosdi Wan Ibrahim of PAS (left) and independent candidate Izat Bukhary Ismail Bukhary.
It was held following the death of the three-term assemblyman, Datuk Noor Zahidi Omar of the BN, on Aug 20.
Noor Zahidi had retained the seat in the general election held last year with a majority of 1,736 votes, beating Saharun Ibrahim of PKR and Izat Bukhary.
