Suhailah laid to rest at heroes Mausoleum

Tun suhailahKUALA LUMPUR, Oct 4 –  Tun Suhailah Mohamad Noah, widow of Malaysia’s third prime minister Tun Hussein Onn, who died early today, was laid to rest at the Heroes Mausoleum at the National Mosque here.

Suhailah, mother of Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin, passed away at 12.30 am at the KPJ Damansara Specialist Hospital. She was 82.

Her remains were brought in an armed forces hearse to the mosque at about noon from her residence at No. 19, Jalan Changkat Tunku, Bukit Tunku, here.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, who is a nephew of Suhailah, and his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, attended the funeral at the Heroes Mausoleum.

Also present were Najib’s mother and Suhailah’s younger sister Tun Rahah and Hishammuddin and his family.

Those who paid their last respects included Melaka Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Mohd Khalil Yaakob and former International Trade and Industry Minister Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz.

Suhailah’s remains were placed at the main prayer hall of the mosque from 12.15 pm to 1 pm to enable the people to pay their last respects.

After the Zohor prayers, the funeral prayers were held at 1.25 pm. The remains were then taken to the Heroes Mausoleum, located adjacent to the mosque, for the burial.

Earlier, at the residence, the Sultan of Pahang, Sultan Ahmad Shah, and the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah, were among those who paid their last respects to Suhailah.

Others included Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek; Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Seri Hasan Malek; Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob; Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.

Dewan Negara president Tan Sri Abu Zahar Ujang; acting Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor and Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar.

Suhailah was awarded the Darjah Seri Setia Mahkota (SSM), which carries the title ‘Tun’, by the federal government in 1990.

She had also been honoured with the Srikandi award by the Girl Guides Association.
