Kumar Amman 2PUTRAJAYA, January 24 – MIC secretary-general Datuk G. Kumar Aaman today agreed to end his hunger strike following a request from party president Datuk Seri G. Palanivel.

In a statement, the party chief said he had been concerned about the hunger strike at the Registrar of Societies’ (RoS) premises, here, since yesterday afternoon.

“Even though it was his personal decision, I’ve now requested him to end the hunger strike for the sake of MIC and Barisan Nasional’s image.

“I had just spoken to him and I’m glad that Kumar Aaman has agreed to accede to my request to end the hunger strike,” he said.

Kumar Aaman, who resorted to such action in protest against the RoS, told reporters he would abide by the president’s wishes.

Meanwhile, MIC vice-president Datuk M. Saravanan said he still respected and accepted Palanivel’s advice, but he hoped the party president would discuss with the other party leaders before making any decision related to the party.

I respect his advice for the good of MIC and I thank him for the positive action being taken by him in solving the crisis in MIC.

“But what saddens me is that I, as a party vice-president, did not know what was really happening,” he said.

The crisis in MIC started when last Dec 5, the RoS asked MIC to hold re-elections for the three vice-president posts and 23 Central Working Committee (CWC) seats within 90 days due to irregularities in the elections at the MIC General Assembly in Melaka on Nov 30, 2013.

The RoS also ordered MIC to hold re-elections for a number of divisions ad also advised the party not to hold its annual general meeting until all the issues have been resolved.
