Kuala Lumpur, Feb 14 – Unconfirmed news began circulating through social media today that MIC President G.Palanivel has suspended MIC CWC member and Secretary General of the 2009 CWC (Central Working Committee) A.Sakthivel (pic) for 4 months. Sakthivel who was once a confidante of Palanivel was even nominated by the party President for the post of TNB Director representing MIC.
The press statement purportedly released by Palanivel stated:
“I had in my previous media statement stated that a purported Interim CWC Meeting is being called by one Mr. Sakthivel Alagappan. He had issued a Notice of Emergency Meeting of the Interim Central Working Committee of MIC dated 12 February 2015 purportedly as ” Secretary General, Interim CWC”. The meeting was fixed on 13 February 2015″
“Despite my warnings as President, the purported meeting went on yesterday on the 3rd Floor of MIC Headquarters, at 6pm. In my previous media statement, I had also stated my rights under Articles 46.5 and 49 of the MIC Constitution on my absolute rights as President of MIC. I hereby suspend Mr. Sakthivel Alagappan from being a member of MIC for a period of 4 months. This decision is reached after consultation with the Disciplinary Committee Chairman, Mr. Karuppanan. The move is made to stress my rights and prerogatives as Party President of MIC”
“On another note, I would be meeting the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak over the next few days to inform him my stand as President of MIC concerning a few matters in regards to directives issued by ROS and the validity of my appointment of Dato Sothinathan as Secretary General of MIC. Until then, all meetings held in the name of Interim CWC Committee and pursuant to such requisition and notice shall be illegal, null and void”
Several leaders unable to deny or confirm
Today several leaders aligned to Palanivel attended a gathering of branch chairmen in Melaka which was organised as part of Palanivel’s Presidential campaign.
Some of the leaders attending the meeting confirmed that Sakthivel, Senator Datuk Jaspal Singh, and Datuk V.S.Mohan had been suspended by Palanivel but were not willing to be quoted.
However, Mr Karuppannan, newly appointed as Chairman of MIC Disciplinary Committee when contacted by selliyal.com said “I am unable to confirm the information. Let me verify before making any comments”.
When contacted, Datuk S.Sothinathan (pic), who is the new Secretary General appointed by Palanivel said he is unable to confirm or deny such reports and that he is not in a position to make any statement on the matter at this moment.
So far there had been no official statement on this matter from MIC Website or Palanivel’s office.
