Park ‘n’ Ride facilities will encourage more people to use public transport – Kong

KUALA LUMPUR, March 1- The number of rail commuters in the Klang Valley is expected to increase with the availability of more ‘Park ‘n Ride’ facilities. Transport Minister Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha(Pic) said that 10 ‘Park ‘n Ride’
facilities will be operational by end of this year, offering additional 10,000 parking bays for commuters.

KONG“Under the NKRA initiative, we realised that there a lot of requests from the public for the ‘Park ‘n Ride’ facilities at LRT and KTM commuter stations.

“People are willing to take public transport but there are not enough ‘Park ‘n Ride’ facilities,” he told reporters after opening the ‘Park ‘n Ride’ Complex at Gombak LRT Station, here, today.  Besides Gombak, other ‘Park ‘n Ride’ facilities are in Kajang, Padang Jawa, Kepong, Batang Benar, Bangi, Salak Selatan, Petaling, Ampang and Bandar Tun Razak.

“Two of such facilities will be opened this year while the rest are expected to be operational by middle and end of this year,” he added. He added that plans to build more ‘Park ‘N Ride’ facilities in future was also subject to availability of land.  The RM30 million five-storey Gombak ‘Park ‘n Ride’ facility has 1,260 parking bays where 158 and 24 are designated for women and disabled respectively. It is also equipped with parking guidance system, lifts, CCTV and covered walkway that links the complex to the LRT station.
