Mumbai, June 10 – Photo taken yesterday shows an Indian coachman sitting on the box of a ‘Victoria’ horse-drawn carriage as he waits for tourists to book his vehicle for a joy ride through the night-time streets in Mumbai, India.
A regional High Court has banned the horse-drawn carriages, one of the city’s tourist attractions, declaring them ‘completely illegal’ and ordered them to disappear from the streets within a year, media reports on 09 June said.
The court also called on the state government to develop plans to compensate the estimated 700 family businesses operating the carriages and to take care of the horses.
