March 7, 2013- Director Ameer’s latest statement on Vishwaroopam might very well land him in yet another trouble. Ameer who usually manages to stirs up controversies for his open talk has said that Vishwaroopam is a film that truly deserves to be banned. He alleged that the characters in the movie have portrayed Taliban freedom fighters in the wrong light.
In his recent interview to a Tamil magazine Kumudam, Ameer, the follower of Islam said, “Though Kamal’s Vishwaroopam has not portrayed Muslims in poor light, it has portrayed Taliban freedom fighters as terrorists. Talibans in Afghanistan who are fighting against the foreign occupation have been portrayed in wrong light. “
“Talibans who are performing a holy war in the country for the freedom and rights of Afghan people are alike the LTTE freedom fighters Prabhakaran and his army, who fought for the rights of Tamil people and separate Eelam.”, the director added.
“This issue needs to be highlighted at this stage, but no political parties and religious heads who were protesting against the film prior its release have not come forward to condemn the portrayal of Talibans wrongly in the Film. Showing Taliban freedom fighters as terrorists does not represent facts and should not be encouraged, and in my viewsVishwaroopam is condemnable ” concluded Ameer Sultan.
