28 March 2013-Having a healthy, dense and shiny hair can be a gift in itself. But maintaining it with the right hair potions and conditioners along-with combing it right is very important for a healthy hair. It is quite common to see baldness, dandruff and hair fall at an early stage, the cause could be attributed to wrong combing habits. Combing hair may seem like an ordinary routine but it plays a pivotal role in nourishing the hair and promotes blood circulation.

1. Choose the best comb- This is the most important part. You must take into account the kind of hair you possess. If it’s curly you would need a wide-toothed comb, if it’s thin you’d need a tail comb and if it’s thick, long and voluminous you would need the regular comb.

2. If you have hair that is fine and prone to split ends, it is better to avoid brushes as they can rupture the hair. However if your hair is thick and long then brushes are the best thing to use.

3. Combing your hair from the scalp will cause knots and tangle hair. It is advisable to comb hair from the ends first which will reduce hair fall.

4. Curly or coily long hair tends be more voluminous, hence it is suggested that you section the hair into two or three parts and comb it. This helps in detangling it easily and makes it uniform. Short hair does not require sections and can be combed softly with a wide toothed comb.

5. Don’t comb your hair when it’s wet as hair tends to be at its weakest when it’s wet and applying pressure while combing it can affect the roots causing breakage and damage.

6. Men should not comb their hair backwards very often as this would cause baldness. It is advisable for men to comb towards the sides and use roller brushes for hard and frizzy hair.

7. Never use other’s comb as this can easily cause fungal infection and dandruff leading to hair fall. It could also infest your hair with lice, which would take a long time to clean.

8. Do not press the comb on your scalp as this will loosen the roots. Make sure you choose a comb that does not have sharp teeth. Do the finger combing as this will eliminate the tangles.

9. The scalp of your hair should always have the sebum balance. The natural oil distributes nutrients to your hair and prevents hair fall.
