Muhyiddin receives courtesy call from Yunnan Governor

PUTRAJAYA, March 28– Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin(Pic) today received a courtesy call from the governor of Southwest China’s Yunnan Province, Li Jiheng.  The Governor and his delegation, who arrived in Malaysia yesterday, is on a four-day working visit to explore and enhance cooperation between Yunnan Province and Malaysia.

MuhyiddinThe visit, upon invitation by the Malaysian Ministry of International Trade and Industry, is also aimed at promoting the First China-South Asia Expo to be hosted in Kunming City from June 6 to 10.  With a population of 46 million people, Yunnan Province, the only province of China which connects with Southeast Asia and South Asia, is adjacent to Sichuan, Guizhou, Guangxi, and Tibet, and the province shares borders with Myanmar, Laos, and Vietnam.

In 2011, the Central Government of China issued a strategic initiative aimed at building Yunnan into a major gateway of China opening up to South-eastern and Southern Asian regions. The meeting between Muhyiddin and the Governor lasted some 30 minutes, and Jiheng was scheduled to attend the the Yunnan-Malaysia Business Cooperation cum China, South Asia Expo Promotion Seminar in Kuala Lumpur, tomorrow.
