BALAKONG — The residents of the Seri Pulai Apartments, Taman Balakong Jaya, are tired of problems related to poor management of rubbish collection that has caused the spread of dengue fever as the issue has been ignored for long time.
One of the residents, M. Krishnan, 58, when met by Bernama today, said despite several complaints submitted to the relevant authorities, no action was taken and the occupants in nearly 900 apartment units there were living in discomfort.
To aggravate the matter, he also claimed that inadequate waste disposal facilities including poor maintenance at the designated site and with no bins provided, had resulted in nearly 25 abandoned apartment units turned into rubbish dumps.
“The roads in the areas are riddled with potholes and the children’s playground is unsafe for use. We are hopeful that new elected representative will come to this area. Don’t ignore us, please solve our problems,” he said.
Another resident, M. Karishma, 18, said the absence of street lights in the housing area made her worried for her own safety whenever she returned home from work at night as she had to walk for a quite a distance from the bus stop to her home.
Meanwhile, senior citizen L. Angelai, 61, felt that the Indian community in Balakong was not accorded with necessary assistance by any party as she had never been told how to obtain assistance from the Social Welfare Department and that her daily needs were borne by her only child apart from the 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M) that would soon be discontinued.
The Balakong state seat is seeing a by-election on Sept 8. It is a straight fight between Tan Chee Teong of MCA and Pakatan Harapan candidate Wong Siew Ki.
