KUALA LUMPUR, April 6 – The Barisan Nasional (BN) is confident of regaining the Lembah Pantai parliamentary constituency, based on the local community’s feedback over the past four years, said Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
He said the people’s response towards the government’s transformation programme proved that they trusted and appreciated the efforts to ease their burden, especially with the 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M) programme.
“The people’s response has been very encouraging because they realise that the transformation policies introduced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and the BN government have brought great benefits and ensure a much better
future,” he said.
Muhyiddin spoke to reporters after a visit to Lembah Pantai and breakfast at the Singgah Santai stall, Desa Pantai Condominium, here today. The Lembah Pantai parliamentary constituency, a BN stronghold, was captured by Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) in the 2008 general election when its candidate, Nurul Izzah Anwar, beat Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil of the BN by a majority of 2,895 votes.
Muhyiddin, who is also Federal Territory BN Liaison Committee chairman, said the BN’s chances of wresting back the Lembah Pantai seat were now much brighter as its Umno division chief Datuk Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin had been doing a good job of serving this community since 2008. Raja Nong Chik is the Federal Territories and Urban Well-being Minister.
“The community is clearly saying they’ll vote for BN and is only waiting for polling day. I’ve asked them what Nurul Izzah, the PKR representative, has done for them and they replied, ‘Nothing’,” he said.
Advising BN members not to be over-confident, he said “anything can crop up during the time leading up to polling day. We expect a stiff competition so we may face many challenges, such as lies spread by the opposition.” He urged BN members not to take these matters lightly but instead to work hard in order to ensure a big win for the BN.
