PEKAN, May 10- Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob, who has been reappointed as Pahang menteri besar, said a special committee would be formed to strengthen racial unity in the state.
He said fostering racial unity would be the focus of his administration following the majority of Chinese voters supporting the opposition in the recently-held 13th general election (GE13).
“We have closed a chapter in our history and it’s time to look forward and find ways to create better understanding and strengthen unity among the various communities in the state.
” Adnan said this after he was sworn in as menteri besar at Istana Sultan Abu Bakar, here, today. He said the committee would comprise several government officials to ensure continuous racial integration in society.
On Barisan Nasional losing a number of state seats in the GE13, Adnan said a post-mortem would be held to address the issue. He said a mechanism would also be sought to ensure Chinese representation in the state governnment if the Chinese elected representatives rejected the state executive council (exco) posts offered.
He also said that the state exco members would be sworn in next Thursday at 11am at Istana Abu Bakar.
Adnan’s swearing-in ceremony earlier was attended by members of the Pahang royalty, state secretary Datuk Seri Saffian Ismail and Inderapura assemblynman Datuk Shafik Fauzan Sharif. However, no representative of the opposition attended the ceremony.
