KUALA BESUT, July 11- Election Commission (EC) chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof says the nomination process for the Besut by-election on Friday can be completed by 11am.
“If everything goes smoothly, the nomination process will be over by 10.30am or latest by 11am and the list of candidates will be announced,” he told Bernama.
The EC has set July 12, for nomination at the Rakan Muda Complex in Kg Raja Besut, here, and July 24, for polling.
The Kuala Besut state seat fell vacant following the death of Umno’s Datuk Dr A. Rahman Mokhtar on June 26.
The Barisan Nasional (BN) named Tengku Zaihan Che Ku Abdul Rahman, 37, a civil engineer with the Drainage and Irrigation Department, as its candidate while PAS named Endot@Azlan Yusof, 48, a contractor, as its candidate.
“We do not foresee any problems because it will be the first Friday of the fasting month. Furthermore, Friday is a holiday in Terengganu,” he said.
