COLOMBO, Feb 9 – Sri Lanka on friday sought security for its establishments and institutions in India after a state-owned bank was vandalised in southern state Tamil Nadu, Press Trust of India (PTI) reported.
A Bank of Ceylon branch in the state’s capital city Chennai was attacked on Thursday.
An official statement said the Sri Lanka High Commission in New Delhi would seek assistance from the Indian government to provide security to other Sri Lankan establishments in the Tamil Nadu such as the Maha Bodhi Society and Sri
Lankan Airlines.
It also sought the protection for its Sri Lankans citizens living in India, the statement said. The attack on the bank, which left two person injured, came on the eve of a private visit to India by President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
