Lim Keng YaikPETALING JAYA, Dec 22  — Parti Gerakan Malaysia former president Tun Dr Lim Keng Yaik, 73, died at his residence at the Tropicana Country Resort, Petaling Jaya at 4.45pm today.

It was learnt that Lim died of old age.

He is survived by his wife, Toh Puan Wong Yoon Chuan and three children. After news of his demise was broadcast, media representatives began to fill up the area outside Lim’s residence since 6.30pm to seek more information from members of his family.

His son, who is also the Gerakan Youth head, Datuk Lim Si Pin, when approached by reporters, however, declined to be interviewed.

Gerakan Youth secretary-general, Dominic Lau, who was also present beside Si Pin, pleaded with the journalists to return to their respective offices. “We will inform you the news tomorrow,” Lau said.

A glorious political history

Lim was elected as Gerakan president in 1980 and led the party until 2007 when he stepped down and was succeeded by Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon.

His last post in the cabinet was as the Minister of Energy, Water and Telecommunications from 2004 until 2004.
