Kuala Lumpur, July 2 – MIC Secretary General A.Sakthivel has denied Datuk S.Sothinathan’s allegations that the CWC meeting called by party’s Acting President Datuk Seri Dr S.Subramaniam is unlawful as it was not sanctioned by him as Secretary General of the party.
“Sothinathan himself is not a member of the party” slammed Sakthivel (pic).
In a press statement issued today Sakthivel said “It has come to my attention that an individual known as Datuk Sothinathan has issued another self-serving statement proclaiming himself as the Secretary General of MIC. My only response is that the High Court of Malaya has given judicial recognition to the 2009 CWC and the ROS has updated their records and issued the relevant notices on the legal position of the relevant members as endorsed by the ROS. As the Legitimate CWC duly recognised by ROS, we have a duty to conduct the re-elections within the timelines and in accordance with the directives issued by ROS. We do not wish to waste our precious time entertaining the irresponsible statements issued by this former member known as Datuk Sothinathan”.
Sothi’s allegations
In a press statement posted on his facebook page yesterday Datuk S. Sothinathan (pic) said he did not approve any meeting, as the secretary-general, to discuss Article 91 of the constitution to relinquish Datuk Seri G. Palanivel’s membership.
Sothi claimed that he should the one who is authorized to call for the CWC meeting as he is the “Secretary General” appointed by “President” Dato Seri G.Palanivel.
However, party observers said Sothinathan is making desperate attempts to divert the issue and restore his credibility lost due to his promise to produce the letter from RoS.
Sothi’s failure to produce RoS letter
Last week, Tamil media reported that Sothi claimed he has met RoS officials notifying them about Palanivel camp’s CWC meeting decisions and that the RoS has agreed with him that “Subramaniam is not the Acting President” and that the “RoS has endorsed expulsion of 15 members of 2009 CWC”
Since then Palanivel’s camp was abuzz with speculations that Sothi will get the respective letter from RoS on Monday (29th June), but no such letter was produced on Monday. Then Palanivel’s supporters claimed that the letter will be out by Wednesay (1st July).
However, to their dismay, RoS issued a statement on Tuesay (30th June) that the RoS will not issue any more letters, causing a severe blow to Sothinathan’s claims.
“This has severely damaged Sothinathan’s reputation and credibility and in order to divert MIC members’ attention from this issue, Sothi is now twisting facts on CWC meetings called by Dr Subramaniam” party observers said.
Meanwhile, on Monday 6th July, the KL High Court will hear the Interim Stay Order application filed by Palanivel, Sothinathan and others.
