At least 36 people were killed when a passenger boat capsized off the central Philippines with – according to latest counts – still 19 missing, a coast guard spokesman said. Emergency teams rescued 118 people from the seas off Ormoc City in Leyte province, 560 kilometres south-east of Manila, where the accident happened, said Commander Armand Balilo.
The boat was carrying 173 passengers and 16 crew members, according to Balilo and the police.
