ALOR SETAR, March 13 – Umno Information chief Datuk Ahmad Maslan(Pic) today called on Kedah Barisan Nasional (BN) to buckle up in a bid to wrestle back the state in the 13th general election. He said Kedah BN should turn the numerous local issues in the state to their advantage, especially with the fact that BN lost the state to the opposition in the 2008 general election with only a slim majority and that there were not many fence sitters among the voters.
“Among the four states currently controlled by the opposition pact, I think Kedah is the most vulnerable,” he told a press conference at the Kedah Umno Information Office here today.
Ahmad, who is also Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, said Kedah was currently deluged with issues, including those concerning Insaniah University College (Kuin) and uncontrolled logging activity.
“I’m confident with all the efforts undertaken by BN at the state level and the domestic crisis in the opposition pact also showed that they are incapable of governing the state.
“So, Kedah BN should not let go of this opportinuty to win back the state. Buckle up, help each other to launch and attack,” he said.
Earlier, Ahmad launched the Kedah Umno Heroes Fund which aimed at reducing the burden of the families of the slain heroes who were killed in the intrusion tragedy in Sabah.
“The launch of the fund in Kedah is hoped to be emulated by Umno members in other states. At the national level, the federal government had also provided various aid and donations,” he said.
He said the public, especially Umno members, could channel their donations to Umno state headquartes or Umno offices in their respective divisions.
