KUALA LUMPUR, March 15- Celcom Axiata Bhd aims to position Malaysia as a leading mobile applications (apps) developer globally, said its chief digital services officer, Afizulazha Abdullah. He said in line with the aim, Celcom Axiata launched the App Developer Challenge 2012 last year to give Malaysian mobile apps developers the chance to showcase and commercialise their talent to a global audience.
“Celcom will be working closely with not just the winners but also the other participants who have met our standards and have demonstrated great potential for commercialisation,” he told reporters after announcing the winners of the App Developer Challenge 2012 here today.
The Challenge is a collaboration between Celcom Axiata, Multimedia Development Corp (MDeC) and MyAppzil, an independent regional app store under principal UbiNuri Inc. UbiNuri is South Korea’s biggest content aggregator with over 6,500 apps and a latent pool of 1,100 developers worldwide.
MDeC chief operating officer, Ng Wan Peng, said the Challenge offered a platform for developers to hone their talents and create practical and creative mobile apps that could be monetised and appeal to the global market. The first winning app was won by Steven Low and Tan Aik Keong of Agmo Studio Sdn Bhd. The second winner was Tang Tung Ai of icon Mobi Solution.
