KUALA LUMPUR, March 18 – Ambank Group chairman Tan Sri Azman Hashim and wife, Tunku Arishah Tunku Maamor(pic), tonight contributed RM1 billion to the Azman Hashim Foundation, in conjunction with their 50th wedding anniversary. The foundation, which was set up on Jan 5, 1991, will distribute the fund to numerous welfare and educational development programmes in the country.
The Yang DiPertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir and Tunku Ampuan Besar Negeri Sembilan Tuanku Aishah Rohani Tengku Besar Mahmud launched the Azman Hashim Foundation here tonight. Prior to this, the foundation had contributed RM42 million for the development of education in several public institutions of higher learning in the country, including building a RM7 million educational complex at the International Islamic University of Malaysia.
Other than constructing a new building worth RM25 million to meet the needs of the Faculty of Business and Accountancy, University Malaya, the foundation also contributed RM10 million to build a building for sporting activities at Universiti Sains Malaysia, Penang.
