JERLUN, March 22 – Umno members and Barisan Nasional (BN) supporters must not be too concerned about who will become Kedah Menteri Besar if BN wins the 13th general election, because what is important is to win. Kedah Umno Liaison Committee deputy chairman Datuk Mukhriz Tun Dr Mahathir(Pic) said, the 13th general election would be a test of loyalty and obedience of Umno members and BN supporters in ensuring a BN victory.
He said it was not the time to be at odds on matters which should not be prioritized, such as who would be Menteri Besar if BN won, but it is time to be united and back the party.
“Priority is on BN. When the Prime Minister announces the dissolution of Dewan Rakyat and states dissolve their State Assembly, then announce the candidates, don’t think about it all (who is to be Menteri Besar).
“Think of ensuring the candidate’s win. If there are feelings of dissatisfaction for whatever reason, think of party first..make the party win, then only can we open whatever files after that. This is the time to strengthen and give priority to BN. The matter (Menteri Besar) can only happen and be carried out after the general election,” he told reporters after opening a Mara Premises Mini Expo and launching the state level programme ‘My Village is Skilled’ in Medaniaga Kerpan, near here, today.
Mukhriz, who is also Member of Parliament for Jerlun, said this when commenting on speculation, especially in the social media that he would be contesting a state seat, and appointed Menteri Besar if BN wins back Kedah.
“Not sure where I will contest. The BN chairman decides. Place me anywhere. As a party machinery, will do my best to ensure BN wins. I think (the rumour) is highly speculative and premature.
“Besides, it involves a lot of process. Must win first, if contesting a state seat. After that has to recapture Kedah..must get 19 seats (from the 36 state seats) or more,” said the deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry.
