SHAH ALAM, March 23- Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) will offer a new academic programme to help more national athletes continue their studies at the university. UiTM Vice-Chancellor Datuk Seri Prof Dr Sahol Hamid Abu Bakar said, the effort would be made through its Sports Centre and Faculty of Sports Science and Recreation in appreciation of the achievements of athletes who made a name for themselves at national and international levels.
“In line with the support of UITM towards the national sports development programme, I promise to bring more national athletes to study at UITM,” he said in his speech at the 2012 UITM Sports Award Ceremony which was opened by Malaysia Lawn Bowls Federation president Tun Ahmad Sarji Abdul Hamid here, last night.
Sahol Hamid said UITM had spent almost RM1.5 million last year for its athletes to participate in more than 21 types of sport championships at university, national and international levels.
