KUALA LUMPUR — Twenty-three men pleaded not guilty in the High Court here today to a charge of being members of an organised crime group known as “Geng 08” since three years ago.
They are R.Nagarajan, R.Ganesh, K.Ron Raniel, K.Balamuruli, V.Anith Kumar, P.Sharveswaran, R.Alagendran Pillai, S. Kanagadran, M.Satish Varman, S.Shashi Kumar, G.Thiagu, S.Pandian, C.Navin Naidu, M.Neriendran, V.Shasi Kumar, B.Seleveraj, P.Nagulan, M.Parwin, L.Pravin Kumar, N.Saravanan, M.Indran, S.Sathiaseelan, M.Arivanathan.
All the accused, aged between 19 and 38, made the plea after the charge was read out to them in Tamil before judge Datuk Azman Abdullah
They were charged with being members of “Geng 08” in Kuala Lumpur between Jan 1, 2015 and March 28 this year.
The charge, under Section 130V (1) of the Penal Code, provides an imprisonment for up to 20 years, if found guilty.
The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutors Muhammad Fadzlan Mohd Noor and Noor Syazwani Mohamad Sabry, while lawyers Maurice Ernest Scully, Kenny Tan Cheng Yee, Lee Wenxu, Muhammad Fakkurullah Roslan and K. Komagan, represented 15 of the accused.
The court fixed Aug 14 for mention for submission of documents and for the eight accused to appoint their lawyers.
