KUALA LUMPUR — UMNO will meet tomorrow to decide whether or not the party will contest in the Port Dickson parliamentary by-election, its Youth chief Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said.
He told reporters this after attending the UMNO Supreme Council meeting which was chaired by its president, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, today.
Meanwhile, a source in UMNO, who declined to be named, said the party’s political bureau would meet tomorrow to discuss the matter and the meeting would be chaired by Ahmad Zahid.
“UMNO and MIC have to agree on who will be nominated,” said the source.
The Election Commission (EC) has fixed Oct 13 for the Port Dickson by-election, with nomination to be held on Sept 29.
Incumbent Port Dickson Member of Parliament Datuk Danyal Balagopal Abdullah vacated the seat last sept 12 to give way for PKR president-elect Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to return to the Dewan Rakyat.
Danyal won the seat in the last general election with a majority of 17,710 votes, defeating Barisan Nasional candidate Datuk V.S. Mogan and Mahfuz Roslan, from PAS.
