KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 19 — People’s Progressive Party (PPP) president Datuk Seri M. Kayveas (pic) today rapped the opposition parties, which he said, had been spreading too many lies with the intention to cause the people to get angry to the extent of holding street demonstrations.
“To them, a demonstration is a channel to express their rights, but the truth is, this kind of culture is bringing about negative impact to the country’s economy and social structure,” he said when opening the 1Malaysia Ponggal Festival here today.
Present were Deputy Information Communication and Culture Minister Datuk Maglin Dennis D’Cruz.
Kayveas said under the Barisan Nasional (BN) leadership, the people from all walks of life, had been given equal opportunity and incentives regardless of their race and religion.
“The people can see how the BN leaders are fighting for social, politic and economic development to be at par with developed countries,” he said.
On the Ponggal Festival, Kayveas said it was a traditional harvest festival celebrated mainly by the Indian community.
“The festival is equivalent to the Gawai Day celebrated by the Iban and Bidayuh communities in Sarawak to celebrate the end of the harvesting season,” he added.
