KUALA LUMPUR – Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department and Hindraf chairman P. Waytha Moorthy said he is working with fellow Cabinet colleagues to ensure there is fair treatment for the Indian community and all minorities.
“The government of the day is committed to applying democratic principles to ensure all citizens are treated fairly and equitably,” he said in a statement today.
The statement was issued in the wake of the circulation of a video clip relating to what he said was his interview with a Dutch television station 10 years ago after a Hindraf rally in November 2007. The content of the video has drawn criticism from various quarters.
He said the policies of the then UMNO-led government had prevented majority of the Indian community to be included in the mainstream development of the nation.
Hindraf, he said, continued its struggle with Pakatan Harapan led by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
“I personally explained to Tun my previous activities and the real plight of the Indian community. Hindraf backed Tun’s leadership prior to the 14th General Election and mobilised its support for the current government to ensure that the UMNO regime can be defeated,” he added.
