GEORGE TOWN, April 9- The Federal government had spent RM2 million to provide clean piped water to 350 houses in the Permatang Pauh parliamentary constituency. Permatang Pauh Umno Division chief Datuk Abdul Jalil Abdul Majid(Pic) said pipes were installed in stages from 2008 and completed early this year.
“In the past, residents had to use pumps to draw water because their houses were situated far from the main road. Furthermore, the cost of installing pipes for such a long distance was expensive.
“Since the opposition which won the seat in the 2008 general election did not ensure the welfare of the residents, the Federal government had to spend RM2 million to install the pipes so that the residents can enjoy water supply,” he told Bernama, when contacted here, today.
He said only 15 houses have yet to be installed but the installation would be done soon. Abdul Jalil said the people of Permatang Pauh were disappointed with the empty promises made by the opposition and have now decided to support the Barisan Nasional (BN). He added that people in Mengkuang and Sungai Lembu who were regarded as strong supporters of the opposition, have also started returning to the BN fold, since no opposition flags were seen in the area.
