Penang PASMIRI, April 13 – In a bid to make political inroads into the Land of the Hornbill, PAS will make party history at the coming 13th General Election (GE13). For the first time, the party, which was formed about 62 years ago, will field two Iban candidates.

The duo will contest the Sibuti and Julau parliamentary seats in Sarawak. Former broadcast journalist, researcher and presenter for goverment-owned Al-Hijrah television station Mohd Zaid @ Robby Tandang will contest the Sibuti seat near Miri City. Former government officer Dr Ambrose Labang Jamba will vie for the Julau seat.

PAS Sarawak Commissioner Adam Ahid today described the duo as the party’s “secret weapons” in Sarawak for the GE13. In the 2008 General Election, PAS had also created a history of sorts when it fielded a local Indian woman to contest the Ulu Tiram state seat in Johor. Kumutha Raman became the first non-Muslim woman to be fielded as candidate since the party was formed in 1951.
